Dear Dennis,

 

I heard recently of your illness and wanted to share some thoughts with you.  I know your illness last year came as a blow to your family, just as the Munich air crash did 40 years ago.  Just think of the recovery you and your Club made from that night in Munich.

 

With God’s help I know you can do the same and I will pray to him to help again now.

 

Beyond your name as a great footballer, your reputation as a true sportsman reaches far and wide.

 

We look forward to seeing you healthy again soon and active in our beloved sport of football.

This letter was written in 1998 during Dennis's fight with cancer.  Dennis was very emotional and grateful receiving this letter from his friend Pele.  In 1999 Dennis past away.
